This evening, I took out the fimo with the intention of making something to put on the last hair clip I have. I chose the pink fimo, broke off a piece and rolled it around in my hand. And rolled it, I could not think of anything to make, I thought, flower.. no I had already made a flower, so I thought well what's pink? A PIG! I am not a huge fan of pigs per se, but I do love me some bacon and Babe is one of my favourite films and after making it, a pig is pretty easy to do. Maybe for my next one I can do a cow, actually a whole series of animals I eat would be pretty funny, to me anyway ;)
I made him into a badge and if anyone wants it, they can have him.

Next up, I made the hair clip. Pretty basic, I swear my mind was just blank, except for hearts and stars!

I had to ask myself, what do you like? eh... cats? I find it so much easier to make things for other people. Yes, so I love cats and in particular, my own kitty Tara. So I made a little sculpture of her head, but she kinda looks a rabbit, I think the nose is too low on the face and maybe the ears are too pointy? Ah well, I think it's cute. I glued her onto a snapper hair clip.

I really need more colours to work with. I made Tara's eyes green, because I had no yellow. I know I could have painted white fimo yellow, but I don't have a brush that thin. Her eyes do look green sometimes though. I may seem to be productive, but all this fimoing is procrastination. I should be working on Knittin' Kitten's items for our CO+K swap, which I have to send out in the next two weeks! I am pretty sure of what I am making, but I am terrible with deadline stuff!

My friends Ellie and Greg sent me a photo of their gorgeous little girl Dacia, sleeping with my blanket. Isn't she sweet? :)

It's my friend Sj's birthday tomorrow and I know she has no internet connection, so I don't think I will be spoiling it if I post the pics of her present.

I made her a ring like the lava ring, but with a black chunky bead with gold stripes on it.

I also made her a hair clip, I used fimo to make the swirly piece and glue gunned it to the hair clip back.

This is something I made for myself and I also have another hair clip, which I plan on keeping for me too ;) I have to say I do enjoy working with fimo, it's like being a kid again and just letting your imagination go. Although mine didn't stray far from my favourite swirls, but you know, there is potential for anything ;)

I did make something for my little sister who turned 12 the other day, but I haven't sent it to her yet, as I ended up buying her the most amazing thing online instead. I bought her a Petite Blythe doll. I love these dolls, I haven't any of my own.. yet, but I thought it would be a great way to see if she liked them, to start her off small. She loved it! Lets hope she stops using those horrible Bratz dolls now. O_o
Here is a photo of the one I got her:

Midnight Munchy Madness

It's after midnight on a Tuesday and what am I doing? Eating a delicious mini tart.
It all started when I bought two tubs of Icelandic mascarpone cheese last week to bake a cheesecake, not knowing that I also needed cream cheese. Fast forward to now and it's coming to the end of the month, the purse is almost empty, so no chance of buying super expensive cream cheese. I began to wonder what the hell I could use the mascarpone cheese in!
I have never even had it before, I don't like Tiramisu, so I haven't tasted it in that. I was unaware of what it could be used for. I scoured the net looking at every link I found for recipes for mascarpone. In the end it was my old faithful site Cut Out + Keep that brought me the answer. A beautiful looking strawberry mascarpone tart.

While I didn't have any strawberries(or even like them!) I did have some jam and fruit. I found a recipe for making pastry and then looked in the fridge and came up with this:

Dried Prune Jam* with Mascarpone and almond mini tart:

I followed the recipe for the pastry dough, it turned out perfect! (the only thing I altered, was the butter. I used salted and less actual salt)

I chilled it for maybe half an hour in the fridge after I had rolled it out and then made a test batch. I took out a golfball sized piece of dough and spread it into the greased muffin pan. I could have spread them a little thinner, judging from after they came out of the oven. I baked them for maybe 5-10 mins, as I had the oven on for a bit too long at 250ºc. So a lower heat for a little longer would be better.

I let them cool in their tin and then took them out and put them on my pizza tray and into the fridge to cool.

I spooned in some jam and topped with some mascarpone(that I had mixed with some powdered sugar) and then popped some sliced almonds on too.

They were really delicious. The pastry turned out great and the jam/cheese mix was so yummy. Stephen says, " pretty tasty".
I will be keeping this as my go-to pastry recipe and I can't wait to try out all those cool savoury pies I have bookmarked!
They are pretty filling though, probably not such a great thing to eat after midnight.. with coffee.

*the funny thing about this jam is that I had thought it was some kind of berry until this evening, it's in Icelandic but the picture on the jar shows berries! I always thought it was the grossest berry jam I had ever tried, now I know why ;)

Well, I made an item the other day for a swap I am involved in through Cut Out + Keep It's a clothing swap, I'm getting a nice hippy skirt, but I didn't have anything for this girl, so I made her something.

I wanted it to have something Icelandic, so I used my last lava stone bead. I pretty much went by memory of a how-to on CO+K, I don't have a proper ring thingy for making the shape of the ring, so I improvised and used a spool of thread! It worked pretty well, but obviously I just guessed the size. It fit my ring finger.
The girl Queenfairypants, received it today, so now I can post the pics :) She seemed pretty happy, so that makes me happy!

I called it the Leia Ring as it resembles her signature hairstyle ;)

I have been very productive the last week, it feels great to finish items and send them off to new homes, which is what I did today. I can only post the one project today though, as the receiver of this gift does not view the blog, well to be honest the actual receiver is only four days old, but her mammy wont be on the internet any time soon, me thinks ;) Congrats to Greg and Ellie on the birth of little Dacia :D

I knit the little one a blanket. My biggest knit to date. I chose a woven-rib stitch and I think it is a very nice stitch. It wasn't too boring to knit either. I used almost 6 skein of Cashmerino Aran from Debbie Bliss(colours 300002 and 300011) It is a lovely soft wool and will make a comfortable cot or pram blanket, especially in the summer time.
I added some buttons on the left side as...*coughs*... I missed a couple of pattern stitches and it looked so naked, so I sewed on some yellow and light pink buttons.
I still haven't fully got the hang of blocking the finished knitted item, I just don't have the space to keep such a big item out drying for days, what with Miss Kittypants, I had to block it twice because of her scarpering across it!

Here it is anyway:

I finally got around to making another batch of granola bars. I have quite a few recipes bookmarked and chose this one from Joyful Abode, as I liked that they weren't baked at the end. I made a few changes.
I used slivered almonds instead of peanuts, organic lime blossom honey and added sesame seeds. I used raisins for the dried fruit. They turned out so delicious, I would leave out the vanilla though, it was a bit overpowering, which means you can't get the yummy lime blossom flavour at all. I cut them small and wrapped them in baking parchment so I can take them to work.
I will definitely be baking them again.
